Angoon Taxi was born out of necessity and love for our home.
Like many remote Alaska communities, getting around Angoon can be a challenge. The ferry runs a few times a month, the seaplane schedule is seasonally limited and weather dependent, and there are no taxis or ride-shares on the island. When elders need to get to the clinic, when families have big grocery orders arriving on the ferry, or when visitors land at the seaplane base with coolers and gear — someone needs to be there.
In 2026, we decided to be that someone.
This minivan has been with us through a lot. We chose it because it’s reliable, has excellent cargo space, and handles the gravel roads and steep driveways around Angoon without complaint.
Angoon (Tlingit: Aangóon, “isthmus town”) is the only permanent community on Admiralty Island in Southeast Alaska’s Tongass National Forest. It sits at the mouth of Kootznahoo Inlet on the west side of the island, about 60 miles southwest of Juneau.
Home to the Kootznoowoo Tlingit people for over a thousand years, Angoon is a quiet, culturally rich village of roughly 350–400 residents. The island itself is famous worldwide for its exceptionally high density of brown bears and one of the largest remaining tracts of old-growth temperate rainforest in the world.
Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you’re visiting for the first time, you’ll ride with people who care about this island.
